Teacher Feedback About Curt's Human Disease Website |
| I was looking for web sites for my students to use for their Human disease reports, when I came across your site. "Oh my god", I said. This guy is great. All the work I have been going the 6 years for my students this guy has it all set up. I was glad to see that another teacher was thinking the same way as I. Letting students find out about diseases that effect them on their own. My students first complain about the work but come back with their eyes wide open with "Ah" when they finish. Thank you for you website. It helped out a lot. I will let you know how this years 8th grader handle this. S. J. Dixie Houchen Pearl Jr. High Pearl MS | |
| Mr. Schneider, I am in my second year teaching seventh grade science; I've returned to teaching after taking 10 years off to raise my girls. During those 10 years, a lot has changed! I began to think that I could have my students do a project on different diseases. I googled "human disease" and your project popped up. It looks wonderful and perfect for what I need. Thanks. W. | Hi Curtis, Great to hear from you. The HDP was one of my favorites! I have been teaching physical science for quite a number of years now- so I have not done HDP with my students. One of the last years that I taught 7th grade I had the students read several readers digest stories ( you know how they have stories about how a person/child has survived a particular illness) because they do a nice job of creating a picture of symptoms, treatments and life with the disease. After dissecting the readers digest article for strategies the writer used to bring the medical facts alive, the students wrote their HDP as a readers digest article. They turned out great. I am sure that those who attend your session will be eager to try HDP with their students. Enjoy the conference and the rest of the school year. P. McLoughlin - VUSD, San Diego | |
| Hi Curtis, I have enjoyed a very slow review of your disease website. You and your students have really taken a good idea and made it great. Congratulations on your successes. I am considering using some of your work as a model for my disease project. Much less ambitious than yours, I am hoping to use it as a culminating activity after we have thoroughly studied the human body systems, as well as an opportunity to develop the studentsí research skills. My librarian and I and currently creating the research project today. We have finished the bulk of the directions and handouts. I am asking your permission to use your work, with all the proper citations giving you credit. We may also direct the kids toward your website for research with your permission. I have cut and paste our current rough draft below for your review. It is similar to yours but different focus with a much shorter time commitment. Please review and return your verdict to me: Yes or No, may I use your site and resources. I am teaching at Veteran's Memorial Academy at San Benito Texas. It is only 9th grade, I am enjoying a lot and I really loved the projects that some of my students did. Bella |

Dear Mr. Schneider, I am an 8th grade science teacher in Bristol, Rhode Island and have been teaching science for nearly 20 years. The Human Body is my favorite part of our curriculum. Normally, I have given my students a “Disease Mystery” project and or a 2 week CSI project to round out the year. This year, however, the Disease Project has been linked with our digital portfolio program. In searching the internet for “disease” or pathogen related diseases for middle school, I came across your website. You already know how valuable this site is to educators, but I didn’t want to impose on your work without getting permission to do so. Thank you, Kathleen Podraza Navigator Team Kickemuit Middle School Warren, RI |
