Name of the Disease: Sickle Cell Anemia

My name is Chris Sweet and I am a 24-year-old parent/survivor. I wasborn with Sickle Cell Disease and my daughter is a carrier. I never knew if I would see the age of 10, 18, or 24. I survived and I have recently completed a book entitled "A World You Didn't Know". My book is a self help book the looks at the challenges I have faced as a person suffering from Sickle Cell Disease. It is a broad mix of poetry and a real life story that anyone with Sickle Cell or any other debilitative illness can relate to. I am also the web coordinator for the Sickle Cell Disease Association San Diego Chapter. Currently I handle all web functions for our organization and currently we have counted over 20,000 hits since its inception in February 1999. My personal story is filled with the pains of Sickle Cell which as a kid you become lost when trying to explain your sickness to an adult or another child. It also brings out the spirit that I have found when talking to other people who suffer from Sickle Cell. The strength that keeps you going even though you know there isn't a cure and people don't understand the pain you encounter.
